Lee Cassels received her MA in Counselling Psychology at Simon Fraser University in 1993. Then she became an elementary school counsellor in Burnaby, BC. The work she encountered in the school system was multifaceted and involved supporting families dealing with an array of issues. In addition, Lee worked on contract with The Ark Child Service Society, a non-profit agency that counselled families experiencing loss due to marital separation, divorce or bereavement. Later, Lee became a trauma therapist with Act 2 Child and Family Services in Coquitlam. Now, besides her private practice, Lee works with Family Services of Greater Vancouver supporting clients through their employee assistance programs and also receives referrals through the BC Crime Victim Assistance Program.
Lee uses a variety of proven therapeutic approaches including cognitive behaviour therapy, solutuion focussed therapy, and family systems therapy. Lee has additional training in the areas of trauma, critical incident debriefing, art, play and filial play therapy and marital therapy including working with blended families. She has training in anxiety, depression and substance misuse. These specialized areas of training help her in assisting both the adults and children in families as they address emotional concerns. The counselling offered by Lee is caring, sensitive, and designed for positive and prompt results. Her lengthy career and her extensive experience provides the support that many families, couple and individuals find helpful. She understands that finding "the right fit" is very important when choosing a therapist. For that reason she offers a free 30 minute consultation to potential clients.
