Hi there, and thank you for spending time viewing my profile.  My name is Molly, and I am a registered social worker providing psychotherapy and counselling services to youth and adults.  Perhaps you've been looking through these profiles, maybe feeling overwhelmed, confused, worried, sad, or just in need of connection.  My priority is making you feel heard, seen, safe, and connected.

In my own personal experience with therapy as a client, it is important for me to be with a therapist who is warm and compassionate, and someone I feel is truly invested in my wellbeing.  These qualities make me feel safe and trusting, allowing me to be both vulnerable and able to speak more openly about issues.  As a counsellor and therapist, I strive to embody these qualities as well.  I want people to feel that they an connect with me easily and quickly.  Therefore, it is important to me that I offer you warmth and compassion, as well as safety, kindness, empathy, humour (when appropriate, of course!), and a judgment-free space.

In addition, it is also important that I offer you a level of clinical skill.  In therapy, I utilize a variety of approaches, drawing from various evidence-based modalities and therapeutic approaches, including, but not limited to, cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness based cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and skills from dialectical behaviour therapy.  Our work is really determined by whatever is the best fit for you and your goal.

My clients have described me as gentle, kind, and invested in their wellbeing, making it easy to find comfort within our relationship quickly. I understand personally how difficult and painful life can sometimes be. I would be honoured to work with you towards making life more fulfilling, enjoyable, or simply a little easier to cope with.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can therapy be helpful to me?

I believe that anybody can benefit from therapy!  Therapy can be helpful in a variety of ways and for a variety of reasons.  Therapy can help you to increase your happiness, better understand yourself and the world around you, and better cope with and move through stressors life throws your way.  In addition, some mental illnesses, like anxiety and depression, can be treated with psychotherapy alone.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

People are often hesitant to come to therapy.  They may be uncertain about the processing and what it looks like.  They may be unsure that it can help them.  Perhaps they are worried about being vulnerable in front of or judged by a human they don't know.  I get it!  I really do.  Know that our first appointment together will involve us getting to know each other.  I will ask you a lot of questions so that I can understand you and the issue(s) that brought you to me in the first place.  You will be welcome to ask me questions as well.

I understand that therapy can be scary.  We don't know each other, so another goal during this first session is for me to make you feel as comfortable and safe as possible, so that you feel able to talk openly about yourself and about what brought you to therapy.  Having a good fit is one of the most important parts of this process.

How long are sessions and how frequently do we meet?

Sessions are 60 minutes in length.  We will decide together how often to meet.  Usually, I will see people more frequently closer to the beginning of therapy.  Once therapy has progressed, clients often book their sessions further apart.

How long will therapy last?

The length of therapy varies for each individual!  The duration of treatment is influenced by multiple factors, including the strength of our relationship, the therapeutic modality used, as well as personal factors like motivation and openness to change.  Therapy is absolutely voluntary, so ultimately you get to decide how long we will  work together.

Why should I pick you?

One of the biggest predictors of "success" in therapy is a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship with your therapist.  We therapists must all have a level of clinical skill, but we all have different styles, as we are different humans.  As mentioned, my style is soft, warm, and gentle.  This might be for you, and it might not be for you -- and that is okay!

When looking for a good fit, consider the following:
  • You feel heard and understood
  • You don't feel judged, ashamed, or embarrassed
  • The focus of the session is on YOU and YOUR life
  • Your therapist offers you new ways of thinking and doing

I understand that therapy can be costly, and that it can be frustrating trying to find a good fit of therapist, while considering cost.  This is why I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation via telephone or in person.  I want you to feel good about picking me.  If you don't think we're a good fit, please know that I would be happy to help you find someone else, if that would be helpful.
