I define grieving as: "Your body is healing an emotional break and/or bruise". A loss of any type will create emotional bruising or an emotional break - such as the loss of a loved one. Grieving is a normal emotional healing process. Our emotions will heal, just as a broken leg will heal. However, we are to nurse the bruise/break properly, otherwise the emotional body can not heal itself. I will help you develop a healthy emotional wound care system. I provide a safe place for you to vent your feelings. Venting feelings or I like to call it "washing your emotional wound" is the first step. Then I teach the emotional nursing steps which will guide and support the healing process.

Whenever you lose someone or something valuable, it is completely normal to experience a variety of feelings, sometimes very intense, including numbness and shock, anger and guilt, and sadness and depression. Everyone experiences grief in their own way, and these feelings can become more difficult if family and friends don't understand our own personal experience of grief. Inevitably everyone else moves on more quickly than the person in grief. Having experienced my own loss of a child, I understand my own journey of grief, and can help you work through your own feelings to find a new normal that memorializes your loss, makes sense of your story, and works for you. Feelings of grief or loss account for a great deal of sadness experienced by people, including loss of a loved one due to death, loss of a relationship that has ended, loss of a dream of what might have been, loss of something that you have relied on for a long time. I help my clients see that the process for dealing with this is similar to loss through death and that each person has their own way and timeline for grieving. I help my client chose healthier ways of coping and to be compassionate about their individual process.

We live in a mortal imperfect world and the grief process is about let go of the pain and remembering the person and allowing them to continue on in you. My approach is to set up time everyday to deal with the grief and balance that sadness with routine to help slowly overcome the pain. In the case of loss the process is much the same but we work on learning from the emotion around the relationship/job and preparing ourselves to move forward.

I have personally suffered a great loss in my life, as a result, I feel that I am uniquely qualified to work with clients who have also suffered similar tragedies. Textbook grief therapy is not enough. My experience has helped me formulate a deep understanding of the particular fears, sadness, and problems one faces while dealing with a profound loss.

Acceptance is the hardest part to get to when someone you care about dies. For everyone, the grieving process is very different and unique to them. I hold the 'space' for a person to talk about their feelings, to acknowledge the loss, the anger and the guilt that comes with death, and for them to feel their way into a new way of living. I offer rituals, ways to remember a loved one, and ways to accept their feelings and emotions.

There are many forms of loss we encounter in life - relationships, places, work, meaningful engagements, roles at work or at home, etc. The deeper any of these mean to us, the harder it can be to process the loss. I offer a place to sit with loss, to explore what's going on with it, to learn what's normal & what to expect in this type of journey. Grief has it's own schedule, it's important to honour this, and to grieve well.

Experiencing grief and loss is part of the human condition. The loss of a loved one, or a pet, or a painful life event are all some of the most difficult things we will go through. I have worked as a therapist and counsellor for close to 30 years, and not everyone goes through the 'five stages of grief' in the same way - or in the same order. You will find your own way through grief and loss, with empathetic guidance and therapy from me, as you learn to release the pain.

It’s never easy to deal with loss, regardless of what the loss may be. Loss represents an ending of something. With this starts the grieving process, and for some, the grieving could be delayed, leaving the person feeling overwhelmed and hopeless. Counselling and psychotherapy can help you move forward more quickly from these losses and support you in healing. My goal is to provide you with strategies for healing from grief and loss, while allowing you to speak openly about your memories.
