Meet Barbara Lesniak:
I believe that we all have the capacity to live a fulfilling life. For the past twenty years I have facilitated and witnessed a shift in many individuals who trusted me to share their very private stories of pain and struggle that we all encounter on a human journey. Helping others is my passion that I mindfully cherish, cultivate and grow in my day to day work with those who I meet on my professional journey.
I a am registered psychological associate and a member of the Ontario College of Psychologists. In my private practice I provide individual psychotherapy to clients who are interested in getting to know and integrate their psychological system. I also provide clinical supervision to other clinicians. In 1989 I was granted a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology. My extensive clinical training and experience encompasses many modalities of psychotherapy including DBT , Attachment Repatterning, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems. In addition, I hold a certification in Transactional Analysis and Gestalt therapy. In my clinical work I often incorporate the elements of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction approaches.
Before arriving in private practice, I used to work for various psychological clinics in Etobicoke and Hamilton, as well as an EAP provider in Toronto and Oakville.

Philosophy
I believe that psychotherapy is an empowering process that ultimately helps us uncover the often invisible (subconscious) forces that, at times, are guiding our choices, emotional responses and behaviours. Once this is revealed a space is created to let go of what is no longer needed. Often our coping mechanisms that used to help us survive our childhood are no longer working in our adult life. Applying these old, often generational patterns, may leave us feeling disempowered and stuck, depressed, anxious, stressed, or traumatized. Therapy is about reclaiming our own power, and cultivating what works best for us.
The good news is that we all are pre-wired for healthy connection with self and others. We all have the ability to connect with and cultivate the best version of self. Therapy can help to restore the sense of personal power, provide closure on any unprocessed issues and offer a healthy direction/road map for life going forward. Psychotherapy is the best gift
you can offer yourself and those around you.
In a process of therapy YOU are the centre of my attention, I hear you, you are important to me, and I am curious about your experiences, perception, believes and past or present difficulties, emotional pain, to name just a few. My curiosity allows you to explore your relationship with what brings you in to my office from an introspective, non-judgemental and supportive place inside. This leads to integration, choices and grounding. It also leads to being rooted in an inner place where both the real power and confidence reside. At the end of the process of therapy you will have a better understanding of the roots of your difficulties and be equipped with the tools and strategies to effectively deal with them.
My office is conveniently located in a professional building at Winston Park Drive and QEW (Mississauga/Oakville border); amply of free parking is available.
My services are covered in full or partially by your Extended Health Benefits.
