Welcome and thank you for visiting my page! I am Chau Du, a psychometrist and registered psychotherapist at the Toronto Western Hospital’s Bariatric Surgery Program (TWH-BSP) in Toronto, Ontario where I provide assessments and treatment with individuals with obesity, eating, mood and anxiety disorders. My role also involves conducting research, presenting at conferences, leading workshops and offering mindfulness training to health care professionals. I currently divide my work between my small psychotherapy private practice at the Canadian Mindfulness Centre, TWH-BSP, and I am a Faculty Instructor for the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Certificate Program at the University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies.
Since 2007, I have provided psychotherapy and assessment services to adult clients struggling with a broad range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, loss, cancer, palliative care and life transitions. I have worked in various settings including hospitals, community health centres, hospices, medical clinics and private practice.
After completing my Masters of Science degree in Counselling Psychology, I received additional professional training from the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), the Omega Institute in New York, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Centre for Mindfulness, and the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Certificate Program at the Factor-Inwentash School of Social Work.
My training and experience includes Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Person-Centered Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I am a member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario, and the British Psychological Society.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and collaborative. I work with my clients to help them establish realistic goals and outcomes. I provide a safe, compassionate and non-judgmental space for my clients to be present and to grow physically, emotionally and spiritually. I also believe in the significance of living in the present moment: “to be the mountain” and my approach aims to help my clients evolve and nurture themselves through self-awareness, self-compassion, acceptance, patience, and humour.
