Meet Cheryl

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a strong interest in helping you overcome the stresses in your life. I have over 15 years experience in addiction and mental health counselling. I have always had a passion for helping others and for me, counselling is more of a calling than a job. I came to recognize the value of therapy following a series of personal losses. Moving through my own journey of struggle, family turmoil, and loss, I learned the power of working with a professional supportive other. My goal is to help you move forward and get the most out of your life.

How I Help

When things go on for so long that you forget what life was like before the problem, you might be ready to try something new. Imagine your life when you restore your relationship with food and your body, develop work/life balance, get along better with loved ones, stop worrying and stressing, and feel in control of your emotions.

I take a holistic approach to counselling. Together, we will work on the here and now problems that are affecting your quality of life, and then we will explore the deeper, underlying issues. The most important aspect of our work is that you feel safe and supported to share your story.

Areas of Focus

I can help you work through the issues that cause you stress. I have a special interest in:

·       Food and body image issues because I understand how they rob you of your joy in life. My goal is to help you find peace with food and develop better coping skills.

·       Drug and alcohol cessation with harm reduction or abstinence.

·       Insomnia because when you can’t sleep, it makes everything else so much harder.

·       Worry and rumination: Let go of the need to have all the answers.

·       Depression: Go easier on yourself.

·       Trauma: Traumatic life events change your view of the world. You no longer feel safe and in control. Talking about it can really help.

·       Grief and loss: Sometimes it is hard to move through it.

A Typical Session

In my therapy sessions, we are on a journey together where you are in the driver’s seat.  You steer the conversation and I provide compassion, support, tools, and skills along the way.
