Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is kind but direct, encouraging but not pressuring, and always supportive and caring. I believe you know what is and isn’t working in your life and ultimately you hold the key to unlocking the life you want to live. Therapy can help you to understand yourself better, explore how past experiences are impacting you today, break unhelpful beliefs and thinking patterns, and take meaningful steps towards change. My job is to provide support and guidance through your journey.

Areas of Focus

The following are common areas of focus but not an exhaustive list:

  • Substance Use and Addiction
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Relationship Issues
  • Motivation Challenges
  • Confidence and Self-Esteem
  • Anger
  • Grief and Loss
  • Trauma
 About Me

I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and hold a Masters degree in Mental Health Counselling. When I’m not working, I can typically be found out with my dog Rosie, trying to make something new in the kitchen (often unsuccessfully), and spending time with my friends and family.

In my own personal experience and working as a therapist I know there is no one size fits all approach to therapy, and that’s why I will work with you to create a plan that is unique and personalized to you and your goals. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Strengths-Based Therapy. My approach is Person Centered, meaning I believe everyone has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change, my role is to support you in this discovery.

Reaching out for help is the first, most difficult step to change and I admire the courage it takes to do this. To make the step a little bit easier, I offer a free 15 minute consultation to connect and ensure we're a good fit prior to beginning therapy. I look forward to hearing from you.

Invest in Yourself and Your Personal Growth

When was the last time you stopped and took time to invest in yourself? For once, you don't have to feel guilty about putting yourself first and really taking time to connect with yourself and your needs. Therapy sessions are a place just for you, where you can feel safe exploring your emotions and reflecting on the life you want to live. You'll be encouraged to search within and discover the person you want to be, have the relationships you want to have and feel the way you want to feel. Growth is possible when you choose to invest in yourself.
