Empathic Counselling Centre strives to provide you with exactly that, empathy. I am a big believer in the idea that effective change can best occur when we are honest with ourselves and are able to compassionately open up for self-reflection. My mission is to provide a safe environment where you can not only tap into your emotions, but use these as a driving force for change.
Juliann Rasanayagam, M.A., R.P.(q) has always had an interest in the helping profession. From her early experiences in working in hospitals, retirement homes, and local crisis hotlines, it was obvious to her that her heart and passion belongs to helping those in need.
She specializes in anger management and intimate partner violence. Her experiences in working with clientele who have been involved with the law piqued her interest in understanding complex emotions. She has many years of experience in working with those who lay on a spectrum of anger issues. Juliann has a unique interest in understanding anger from various viewpoints thereby creating treatment plans that are holistic in nature and can be applicable to all anger styles.
Empathy has always been the backbone to developing a strong connection with others. Juliann strives on using a kind, non-judgemental approach to understanding your needs, fears, regrets, guilt and grief. Using a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress-Reduction (MBSR), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology, she guides clients in identifying faulty thinking patterns that may cause painful emotions and replaces these with realistic perspectives.
Building a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients is her number one priority. Juliann ensures that the therapeutic bond is established as early as the initial phone call. Her goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere with her clients as she is aware that counselling may entail degrees of vulnerability and the last thing that she would like is for her clients to feel uncomfortable when sharing their fears and concerns.
Currently, Juliann is a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP).
Juliann absolutely loves elephants, traveling, working out, and a good cup of coffee. She also enjoys writing weekly blogs regarding her opinions of various mental health concerns or perceptions (www.empathiccounselling.ca/blog). Her goal is to change the way we look at mental health and to provide simple life-hacks applicable to anyone.
