About Me

I’m an individual, couples/relationship, and family therapist. I value authenticity, curiosity, a non-judgemental stance, warmth and compassion. These values are integral to the way I approach working with clients. I believe in creating a safe space where people of all backgrounds are welcome, and where clients feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. I work together with clients to capitalize on their inherent strengths and skills, and to cultivate greater feelings of connection, authenticity, understanding, curiosity, compassion, and mindfulness in their lives.

Experience
I have experience working with a broad range of issues, including:
  • Self-compassion and mindfulness
  • Building feelings of connection, intimacy, and authenticity
  • Improving communication and reducing conflict
  • Issues around infidelity, couple separation and divorce, and other family and life transitions such as repartnered families and aging parents
  • Repairing adult child-parent relationships and working with parent-child conflict (aged 15+)
  • Trauma including attachment trauma, micro aggressions, minority stress, and religious trauma
  • Exploring the impact of minority stress and intersecting identities including race, culture, ability, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, etc.
  • Self-harm, suicidal ideation, grief, anxiety, anger, depression, bullying, self-esteem, self-acceptance, intimacy and sexuality, shame, and guilt
  • I am passionate about serving the LGBTQ+ community, and have experience supporting LGBTQ+ clients generally, as well as around issues directly related to sexual orientation & gender identity including coming out and transitioning
  • I have worked with a wide range of clients of varying ages, diverse backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities, and family/relational configurations

Approach

I approach therapy from a systemic, strengths-based, trauma-informed, anti-oppression, and mindfulness-based framework that fosters curiosity and compassion and resists shame. Among other things, this means that I believe the world around us deeply impacts who we are and how we orient ourselves. I strive to keep in mind the broader sociocultural context, the family and social systems each of us have in our lives, and how these systems interact with and impact each of our lived experiences. I work to engage critically with my own and others’ taken-for-granted assumptions and the dominant social discourses that may serve to limit the potential solutions or changes available to clients. I work with clients to move away from stories that are limiting or destructive. Together, we explore new perspectives and use practical tools to focus on cultivating greater self-compassion and self-acceptance.

Therapeutic Modalities

My work is informed by various evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including:

  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Internal Family Systems Therapy
  • I integrate mindfulness-based techniques across these modalities
  • I have specialized training and experience in supporting couples & families navigate various challenges
  • I also have additional training in attachment-based and trauma-informed practice, working from an anti-oppression framework, self-compassion, as well as sex therapy
  • I recognize the value and importance of integrating body focused work in therapy, and utilize Polyvagal Theory and other body centred strategies to explore and build upon clients’ relationships with their nervous systems and bodies.

Finding a therapist can be challenging. I care deeply about creating a space where clients feel safe, understood, & valued. I welcome & encourage client feedback, as I want to ensure clients get the support they're seeking.
