In working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, I use both a cognitive behavioural therapeutic (CBT) approach and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. The principal aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is to increase awareness that thoughts and behaviour drive emotion. My aim is to increase consciousness of distorted perceptions, and then assist individuals in rebalancing those perceptions to be more accurate. EMDR focuses specifically on reprocessing traumatic memories that are at the root of the anxiety. Through EMDR individuals can come to terms with traumatic and distressing memories that underlie anxiety.

Low levels of anxiety can motivate us to accomplish goals and perform at our best. As the level of experienced anxiety creeps higher, it robs us of our joy and can make us feel overwhelmed resulting in either inactivity or a compulsion to be overactive yet not experiencing any lasting relief. Our sense of internal peace and calm is replaced by perpetual overthinking and fear. Let's work together to gain insight into the root cause of your anxiety so that we are able to empower you to reclaim your experience of joy and a sense of internal calm.

Anxiety can come in many forms, such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Phobias, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. There are many reasons why people struggle with anxiety, and I believe it’s is important to look into these as they can give us clues for solutions. In my practice, I have found that the foremost reason that people struggle with anxiety and stress is due to their thought patterns. I help people take a look at their automatic thought patterns, assumptions, and schemas (core beliefs about themselves), and empower them to see that they can chose to think differently. When people are able to change their negative thought patterns for more realistic

It is normal to worry and feel stressed about life's problems and pressures. But when compounded symptoms begin to overwhelm us to the point where we are getting headaches, heart palpitations, a churning stomach, cold sweats, sleepless nights, weight loss, obsessive thoughts, a distressed GI tract - then we need help to break the adrenaline-fear cycle. Anxiety feeds on fear and needs to be confronted, appropriately and safely, with relaxation techniques, new perceptions and constructive thinking patterns. A counsellor can help you do this.

I use Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) techniques to help individuals who may experience difficulties with stress and anxiety. This approach allows us to work together to recognize and focus on the habitual responses you might experience and instead approach them from a non-judgmental and accepting stance. Furthermore, MBSR equips you with techniques that can be practiced at any time and carried with you to help manage ongoing anxiety and stress. I also use aspects of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that focus on education, creating relaxation techniques, identifying and changing negative thinking, and facing your fears.
