      When working with a team member with MRC Counselling, an atmosphere
of mutual respect, understanding, and self-growth is created. We emphasizes the
unique needs and preferences of each client and a client-centered approach.
Regardless of the approach used, each client is considered to be the
expert of their own lives and capable of making lasting, positive life-changes.
Based on this assumption, we supports clients while they discover what
areas of their life are in need of change and healing, so that they can
experience growth, peace and contentment.

      As a team, we are skilled in a number of therapeutic modalities and
draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches. These approaches include 
an anti-oppressive framework, Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural
therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Art therapy, and Eye-Movement
Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Being skilled and trained in a
number of modalities, we have the ability to meet clients where they are at and
employ an approach that is suitable to support clients through a
wide range of life challenges.

      Our team works with a wide range of clientele including but not limited
to, adults, adolescents, children, groups, couples and families. We work with clients
experiencing a number of mental health difficulties and life challenges
including anxiety, depression, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Attention
Deficit Disorder/ Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder, grief, trauma, phobias, chronic pain, self-harming
behaviours, interpersonal relationships, marital conflict/infidelity/divorce,
blended families, parenting, anger management and prenatal/postpartum
stressors. We also work with adults as they encounter family conflicts, parenting
challenges, and postpartum transitions.

      Michaela specializes in working with members of the First Responder
community. These members include law enforcement officers, paramedics,
firefighters, military (both sworn and civilian), dispatch operators,
communications employees, probation/parole officers and nurses. As a former law
enforcement officer, Michaela is skilled and passionate about working with
First Responders as they face the various stresses that these occupations can
present, including addictions, infidelity, marital difficulties and other
mental health illnesses such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). As a
First Responder, clients working with Michaela can trust that she has a solid
understanding of the First Responder environments, stressors, and
political/bureaucratic challenges. Based on her personal, professional, and
educational experience, she has a solid understanding of trauma and its impact
on both the individual and those around them.

      While reaching out and seeking therapeutic support can be a difficult decision for
some, our team at MRC Counselling works hard to ensure that clients feel supported
and encouraged throughout this experience. When working with one of our therapists,
clients can prepare themselves to gain self-awareness as well as a renewed sense of peace
and empowerment.
