When life is difficult or you are feeling overwhelmed it can be helpful to talk to someone who understands and who can provide you with a new perspective. I am a Registered Psychologist with both professional and personal experience working with people facing life challenges such as grief and loss, divorce or separation, anxiety and panic, depression, chronic or terminal illness, parenting, and general life dissatisfaction. I utilize cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and other approaches tailored to your individual needs and situation in order for you to achieve your desire for a more satisfying life. For those who are grieving, I follow the companioning model for bereavement care. If you want counselling with a Christian perspective, I will respectfully walk with you to incorporate your faith within our sessions.
In addition to being a Registered Psychologist with a Master's in Counselling Psychology, my professional background includes time spent as a diagnostic technician and later as a teacher. Working in hospitals allowed me the privilege of witnessing the resilient nature of the human spirit. I came to appreciate the power of emotions on one’s overall wellbeing. The importance of the mind/body connection is what led me to embrace the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness is a wonderful tool that has helped me personally to manage chronic pain. It has also been invaluable for my clients who have faced life-changing diagnoses, anxiety, and other difficult challenges and emotions.
My experience as a teacher of both children and adults provided me with the opportunity to help others set and meet goals, cope with life demands, overcome self-doubt, and achieve success. I learned many practical and simple strategies that my clients can incorporate into their lives to reduce stress, combat anxiety, and build self-esteem. There are tools to help life be both pleasant and manageable.
Personal experiences with loss, both through death and divorce, have instilled in me a passion for bereavement care. I am currently completing my bereavement studies certification under the mentorship of Dr. Alan Wolfelt. Dr. Wolfelt pioneered the companioning model for grief. This approach acknowledges one’s losses from an emotional, spiritual, physical, social, and cognitive perspective. I am forever indebted to those who have permitted me to accompany them on their journey through grief and mourning. While grief is a universal experience, each loss is uniquely personal and deserves to be honoured as such.
As a psychologist, I am grateful for the opportunity to help others reach their potential and live life on their terms.
