General Services

I offer therapeutic services to adults, couples, families, and teens who are struggling with emotional pain that impacts how they feel within their daily lives and relationships, and affects their view of the past, present, and future. I offer a complimentary intake assessment which allows us the opportunity to discuss your therapeutic needs and ensures you have the chance to ask questions about working with me. This initial contact also allows us to sort through administrative tasks without taking up important session time.

I have extensive experience working with clients suffering from varied issues, including addiction and substance abuse/misuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, bereavement, grief, and loss, self-harm, suicidal ideation, among other issues. In addition, I offer the opportunity to include expressive, art, and play therapies for clients of all ages.

I am available for community presentations and workshops on request, where I will work with you to ensure that the content needs of your organization/event are met.

Specialization in Couples Counselling

A primary focus in my therapeutic work is with couples experiencing relationship and communication difficulties, struggling with the demands of parenting, separation, and divorce. I also offer premarital counselling and various relationship workshops throughout the year.

Therapeutic Orientation

My therapeutic philosophy is based on my training in Person-Centred and Psychodynamic therapies, with a key focus on attachment. I also have training and experience in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

About Dr. Zoë Sehn - Education, Training, Experience, Volunteer Work

I hold a Doctoral Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, currently ranked within the top 20 universities in the world. It was here that I received my professional qualification in psychotherapy from Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA). My doctoral research focused on exploring meaning making in the face of bereavement. My use of creative methodologies led my examiners and supervisors to label this research unique and groundbreaking.
I also have a Master of Arts degree from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of British Columbia - Okanagan. Throughout my Master's degree, my research, work, and volunteer involvement centered around positive youth development for at-risk teens in inner-city Edmonton. During my Bachelor's degree I studied happiness in children. I have presented at various international conferences and have numerous academic publications in these areas.

Beyond my experience in private practice, I have worked in In-Patient Mental Health facilities and hospitals as well as Out-Patient Agencies, community facilities, and public schools within Canada and the United Kingdom.

I have volunteered with many local organizations, including the Kelowna Crisis Line, the Elizabeth Fry Society, Big Brothers and Sisters of the Okanagan, and with YMCA youth programs. I currently volunteer with the SPCA.

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and a Registeted Clinical Counsellor (RCC). I am a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), a member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), and am a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
