“What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson-.
Gaining insight into the internal workings of our mind can help us to be aware of our mental processes without being swept away by them. We can get ourselves off the autopilot of ingrained habitual responses and ingrained bahaviours and move ourselves beyond the reactive emotional loops we all sometimes get trapped in. The uniquely human ability of internal insight allows us to closely examine, in depth, the processes by which we think, feel and behave. Recent finding in neuroscience, have shown that by developing the ability to focus attention on our internal states, we can reshape our neural pathways and stimulate growth in areas of the brain crucial to mental health. This process in turn allows us to reshape and redirect our inner experiences so we have more freedom of choice in our everyday actions, more power to create the future and to become the authors of our own story.
Change, however, never just happens. It’s something we have to work at. Psychotherapy offers us the opportunity to explore the subjective essence of who we are. It assists us to create a life of deeper meaning, with a richer and more understandable internal world. It allows us to balance our emotions and achieve an internal equilibrium that enables us to cope with stresses in our lives. By using our capacity of insight and awareness we help the brain to achieve and maintain integration, a process by which separate elements are linked together into a working whole. Creating well-being in our mental life and in our close relationships is a learnable skill. We can alter the way our mind functions, move our lives towards well-being and away from the extremes of rigidity and chaos.
Modern neuroscience has shown that the brain never stops growing in response to experience. We are committed to supporting you in cultivating insight and awareness as well as offering practical skills that will help you understand how to shape you mind toward health. Transformation occurs when we look at our minds with curiosity and respect rather than with fear and avoidance, by inviting our thoughts and feelings into awareness and learning from them rather than being driven by them. We can calm them without ignoring or suppressing them and we can listen to their wisdom without being overwhelmed by their screaming voices.
