Psychotherapist

Paul LeBlanc, MSW, RSW

Therapist

1986 Fairbanks Avenue Back Door, Ottawa, ON K1H 5Y6

I am eclectic, psychoeducationally based therapist. While borrowing on the classic of Cognitive behavior therapy, I also have a strong influence from Attachment theory, and Emotions Focussed Therapy. Therapy with myself for whatever interpersonal problem, personal problem, or state of mood will find you, the client experiencing a friendly discussion about the issues, in a non judgement and non contemptuous fashion. Therapy is always goal directed, there are NO secrets and I share my thoughts. Integrating these models in an educative fashion allows me to explore without being boxed in the clients history and realize goals for personal change, situational change or structural change.

Psychotherapist

Jane Langmaid, M. Ed., RP

Registered Psychotherapist, Ontario

124 O'Connor St, Suite 503, Ottawa, ON K1P 5M9

What i think is most important in individual psychotherapy is safety - that I have my "stuff" sufficiently together to be a safe sounding board, and have walked further along the path, and therefore am able to empathize and understand where the client may be on his/her journey. That nothing is too shameful to talk about. I will use a variety of approaches from my toolbox to help individuals focus on their issues. My goal is for clients to leave sessions feeling important issues have been identified, wounds are being healed, patterns are being identified, and that they have a stronger sense of who they are, what they want. Actions will start to reflect this new awareness.

Psychotherapist

Tressa Porter, M.A.

Therapist and Consultant

Online Therapist / Coach

People often come to therapy to get rid of painful and difficult feelings. Rather than getting rid of our feelings, therapy is a skilled process of helping us understand ourselves so we can use our feelings to navigate our lives. Even the very painful feelings hold vital information for us to become sure-footed in our life. Just like in martial arts, we use the momentum of the attacker and redirect it to ensure our safety ; in therapy we use the information from the painful feelings to clarify what we need to create more safety in our lives so we can thrive. It is a valuable process of allowing our feelings to work for us to create satisfying joyful lives.

I welcome you to consider psychotherapy with its in-depth approach to counselling. Together we build a trusted relationship that supports you in considering perspectives and changes. In therapy people often want to become more aware of their beliefs, feelings, thoughts, relationships, or choices in their lives. My integrative approach enables me to modify therapy to specific goals and needs of each person or family, and to meet new concerns. Starting with our first meeting I invite working together and with your feedback as I draw on knowledge and experience to support you using cognitive, behavioural, creative, emotion-focused, narrative, pastoral, and systems approaches. Psychotherapist

Richard Merrill Haney, M.Ed., Ph.D. (Counselling Therapy)

Couple Counselling/Coaching and Family Mediation Specialist

301 Bank St. (at Somerset St.) In Centretown, Ottawa, ON K2P 1X7

I use the word "Psyche" with my clients to describe how they have a perturbance in their everyday life-style which prevents them from having a normal life. Hippocrates believed (and I do too) that when someone is out of touch with the world around them then it makes sense that there would be a perturbance to symbolize to them that corrective action is necessary. In that sense the perturbance is a good thing because it delivers a message to get back in touch with the Psyche, or the whole field, that we live in. I teach my clients that self-sabotage is actually our Psyche diligently attempting to signal us to get back in touch with ourselves. In a sense accidents are not really accidents.

Psychotherapist

Gill Reilly, MSW, RSW, RMFT

Registered Marriage and family Therapist, Certified EMDR

Within Driving Distance of Ottawa, ON

I use a variety of models in my psychotherapy. Most importantly I believe a warm respectful, non-judgmental environment provides the safety a client needs to address very personal and painful issues in a therapy session. Helping a client see their own uniqueness and inner beauty and to develop confidence in those aspects of themselves allows a client to move forward quickly. I have huge respect for the courage it takes for a client to begin work with a therapist. Depending on the needs of a client I use Experiential or Relational or Psycho-dynamic or Emotionally Focused or other Attachment based therapy, I specialize in working on Healing Shame with some clients and EMDR for Trauma.

Psychotherapist

Suzanne More Kerr, M.A. (C. Psych.), C.C.C.

Marriage & Family & Individual Psychotherapist

611 - 267 O'Connor Street, Ottawa, ON K2P 1V3

As a psychotherapist I have long experienced that it is precisely through the process of verbalizing thoughts that my clients are able to gain a clear sense of their reality--words clarify the vagueness of ideas. And once a reality is expressed, then a client can move toward acceptance of that reality and toward understanding of how to shape that reality in a way that best meets their needs and aspirations. Psychotherapy can be a scary thing to start as it is a bold step to face some of the things we have been hiding from. A safe and warm place is imperative. I will walk you through your first steps of self-discovery and healing, and will walk with you at your pace. I use a combination of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as the basis for psychotherapy. I believe in the power of expressing emotions and understanding their origins as a conduit to better understanding and accepting oneself. I will guide you through the process of learning to express and understand your emotions and behaviours.
