Hi, I'm Alison (she/her).  I'm a white, queer woman.  I believe that therapy is a collaborative process.  I provide embodied, relational support for people experiencing anxiety/worry, stress, self-esteem issues, relationship struggles, work-related stress, and major life transitions.

As a Wholeness Activist, my focus is on wholeness and integration. This means that we will explore being present with what is, rather than focussing on something that needs to be fixed. To our work I bring 20 years of training and experience as a singer, voice and Alexander Technique teacher, and Wholeness in Motion practitioner, so I appreciate the wisdom of your whole being. I bring empathy, collaboration, and creativity to our partnership so that you are always a part of the process.

I invite a body-centred awareness into therapy.  This means that we will explore how your thoughts, feelings, and emotions show up in your being, as well as how your past experiences have shaped your responses to your current situation.  Our bodies house all of our lived experience - resolved and unresolved.  In addition to sharing your story, we might explore your experience through breathing, gesture, mindful awareness, or other forms of movement.

Rapport and relationship are pillars of our work together.  If you feel comfortable, our work is more possible.  Healing happens in relationship, not in isolation.  My relational approach to therapy means that both of our here-and-now experiences are included in our awareness. We influence and are influenced by each other.  I might ask you what you are experiencing in the moment, or might share what my experience is.

Being a Gestalt therapist means that I bring a here-and-now present focus to our sessions.  I believe that each one of us is the sum of our lived experiences.  We learn to adapt to our environment using all of our creative abilities in order to survive and thrive as best we can.  In therapy we will work together to build your awareness of yourself and your surroundings/situation, supporting you to find freedom and self-direction in your life and relationships.

I believe in the importance of connection and belonging as a basic, inherent human right.  As a queer person, I bring my unconditional positive regard and support to fellow humans in their experience of identity and orientation.  As someone who connects deeply with nature and the living world, I enjoy spending time in nature, as well as advocating for animals.  I am an avid trail-explorer, and I volunteer with a local cat rescue organization as a colony feeder.
The human experience includes a broad range of feelings in therapy, including: suffering, joy, wonder, anxiety, grief, loneliness, and connection. Therapy is a collaborative process involving two humans, sitting together with our shared humanity.  I look forward to connecting with you.
