Karen LeVasseur, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

514 Main Street, Bradley Beach, New Jersey 07720

I work with preschool aged children, as young as 3 years old. I support my young clients in learning to calm their feelings, make appropriate choices with their behavior, improve social skills and explore trauma, anger, anxiety, fear and loss; all through play. Play therapy is driven by the child's choices and needs and is very effective in helping children to improve in many areas of their lives. I often include parents in the last 15 minutes of the session for filial (family) play to strengthen the child-parent relationship and provide an additional layer of support. It is fun for everyone!

Sheila Kaminski, MSW,LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

99 Kinderkamack Rd Suite 308, Westwood, New Jersey 07656

A child must know that sharing with their therapist at Starfish will remain confidential. They must feel safe. Their are many different types of therapy that we employ to reach children. One child may be reached with art therapy, another with play therapy yet another with music therapy. We feel that children are individuals and will be treated with dignity and respect.

Steven Sussman, Ph.D

Licensed NJ & NY Psychologist

615 Sherwood Pkwy, Mountainside, NJ, New Jersey 07092

Young children in particular need to feel safe and have fun to be interested in psychotherapy. If not, they do not relax and open up. Instead, they spend their sessions avoiding and denying their problems. Often, the therapist and parent spend wasted time pleading, prodding, and cajoling the child to participate in an honest thoughtful manner. My child-friendly methods are purposely compelling to young children. Many are so excited to come to therapy they run up the stairs and and through the hallway to my office; necessitating me to accommodate other tenants by posting signs discouraging such behavior.

Joanna Buset, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor, Specializing in Children & Adolescents

777 Passaic Avenue, Clifton, New Jersey 07012

I love working with young children because I truly believe in the importance of early intervention. The earlier we address concerns, the more fully our children can blossom. I integrate a wide variety of techniques so that I can help children on numerous different levels. I believe in a comprehensive approach, and will teach you- the parent- how to better interact with your child as well. As a mother myself, I know how much each of us wants to "get it right"... but sometimes it can be hard to know what "right" is. I can help you match your parenting technique to your child's style, so that you can reduce household conflict and encourage positive coping skills and healthy self-confidence.

Marion Rollings, PhD

Children, particularly young children, often do not have the ability to express how they feel in words and as a result, express their feelings through behavior-often inappropriate or undesirable behavior such as hitting, defiance, school refusal, and more. Power struggles over homework, getting up on time for school, complying with parental requests are also common problems of children today. Anxious children frequently complain of stomach aches, dizzy spells, and headaches. Working closely with the child and the child's parents, I implement child behavioral techniques and provide the parents' with tools to successfully manage their child's behavior as well as resolve any emotional distress

Kevin Fleming Ph.D.

Coach/Change Agent/Consultant

Alpine, New Jersey 07620

Many times, child therapists overdo the family system in their quest to seek effective solutions for emotional, learning or behavioral concerns with young children. And many times doctors overpathologize issues that shouldn’t be medicated necessarily. This leaves parents wondering what is the best route for their child? Introducing brainwave optimization technology. A fast, effective, natural, and less expensive way to allow your child's brain to make the optimizing changes it desires to make---on its own! Without any external force, opinion, medication, diagnostic, etc. Contact kevin@kevinflemingphd.com or 877-606-6161.
